Weekend To Do’s
So this weekend was dedicated to really cleaning out the guest bedroom to get ready to make it my craft/sewing/guest room. Sean and I had just crammed everything in that room to clean up all the other rooms. So I went through a ton of stuff and threw away a ton of stuff. Still have a couple of bins to go through and organize. I should have taken a before but it was bad!
When we started cleaning we noticed the dreaded…we have a leak in our ceiling. The ceiling has a spot and actually has cracked. It has been raining like cats and dogs so I cannot wait until it quits and we can get someone up on the roof to check it out. I dread seeing the bill to fix the ceiling because it will have to be patched. But the cleaning had to continue…so it did. We then moved everything out of the loft and steamed cleaned the floors. After looking at the loft minus 2 chairs, a dog crate, treadmill, elliptical, tv/stand, and accessories, it looks so much better empty and I have decided to make it my sewing/craft space. I had ideas to do the guest room shabby chic so I will change some of my plans but for the most part keep that theme as I can in the loft. I have 2 shelving units I am going to paint white then put a piece of MDF painted white with molding on the top for the desk. I want to drill holes in the top to fit containers for my supplies and then add some shelves above. I have not decided where to put the desk in the loft so if I put it in certain areas I may lose my overhead space which I will have to work around. I was going top put up a info/cork board, but we will see what works. I plan to really work on and finish on my time off around our anniversary. We are also planning on putting up a storm door on the back door. Will keep you updated on what the final product looks like and oh yea, the roof!!!
And there was light…..
To all of you that have been to our home lately, you might have noticed it being a little dim in the kitchen. Well our light went out (the ballist) and kept putting off fixing it. I think we both thought it would be harder than it was. Well after going to Lowe’s and buying a similar light to that which is dead and then getting it home finding out it was not…then back to Lowe’s to return it…not finding what we wanted…then off to home depot. Well if you haven’t been in Home Depot lately, wow…they must have a million workers all standing around very eager to help. There was an orange vest on every corner. We met a very nice older man and explained to him that we wanted a light that was similar to what was initially up there so we would not have to make new holes. He pretty much made fun of us and told us to just drill new holes!!! So with light in hand we headed to the bulbs. I remembered that we needed a new bulb in the garage door opener. Now, everyone knows I am cheap and how the man conned me into buying a “special garage door bulb” aka. 60 watt standard bulb
I will never know. He said it took the vibration better. I even think Sean was surprised I picked them up!!! Then off we go. The power was off and had been off, so we were on turbo speed due to the freezer being off….knowing that it would take quite a while to do some damage. Well I think that Sean and I have all new respect for anyone who does repetitive overhead work for a living or climbs ladders all day long!! After Sean lost one of the 2 needed toggle bolts in the wrong ceiling hole…and back to Lowe’s (closer than HD) then we were off. We were both nervous when we tried for the first time..you know wondering if sparks were going to fly from the ceiling. IT WAS AMAZING. Since the light had blown, we have had a wimpy lamp in there and it was doing nothing. This thing is like a spotlight…awesome we can actually see in our kitchen now. You know, I think we both thought that the hardest part of our relationship was putting up the storm door…well we were wrong…it was putting up a light!!
Well no divorce yet. I love my handy man!!!! You did a great job Sean!! Thanks.
