Cartersville Lion’s Club, Seeville’s 10K Vision

On April 17th I ran my first (of many I hope) race of 2010.  This was first ever 10K as well.  I had been running again since February and I felt ready to go and see what happens.  That morning I was so nervous, my stomach was hurting.  The most I had ran was 5.5, so I didn’t know how many body would react to the longer distance.  Despite being quite chilly, the morning was a perfect morning for a run, so Sean, Lily and I headed to Dellinger Park at 7 a.m.  After standing around in the cold, we started at 8 a.m. on the dot.  There was probably about 30 people there, some hardcore, all shapes/sizes, and ages and some just to have fun and get in a workout like me.  So the horn sounded and we were off..Sean and Lily was standing taking pics and cheering me on.  Bombs over baghdad got me to a good start.  I assumed that running with other people would help me pace but didn’t want to start off too fast, so I stayed near the back and stayed around people that looked like me :)   I felt good for the first 2 miles, then began to get a little left knee pain, but soon subsided.  The course was great but had a couple pretty good hills on the riverwalk, that screwed up my breathing, so I need to work on that.  Overall it felt really good, the last leg of the race was about 1.75 laps on the track.  I tried to sprint those, had to slow down then was able to sprint the straight away to the finish line.  FINISHED 6.2 miles in 1 hour, 1 minute and 45 seconds!!!!!!  My goal was less than 66 minutes so my miles were actually faster than usual..helped to run with people.  After they gave away the awards, we headed to the gym for some good ole’ ice and stim for the knees and the hip!!  Very proud of myself, ready to race this coming weekend.
